Creating Lasting Habits and Making Change

Hypnotherapy and New Year’s Resolutions can work together. As the New Year begins, many of us set resolutions aimed at self-improvement. Whether it is losing weight, getting fit, quitting bad habits, giving yourself some time, or starting something new. While resolutions can be motivating, sticking to them is often where the challenge lies. Most people find themselves abandoning their goals by February, returning to old patterns and habits. That is where Hypnotherapy can make a significant difference to Creating Lasting Habits and Making Change.

21 Days to Create a Habit

It can take 21 Days to Create a Habit, and obviously longer helps cement the habit. It is good to challenge yourself to make those changes. Our neural pathways are created with the thought, then with doing the new challenge. By repeatedly doing it, this strengthens the connections, making it the norm. When I started factoring in short exercise classes into my weekly routine, the classes ran for a month to embed the changes. To date, 16months on I am still a member of the Fit for 9 group, short-burst exercising on week days.

Challenges with New Year’s Resolutions

we can easily revert back to old slippers when the new ones rub One of the biggest challenges people face with New Year’s resolutions is overcoming the temptation to revert to old habits when things get tough. In other words, old ways of being are perceived as comfortable in our brain, which is why we can easily revert back to our old comfy slippers when the new one’s rub. When our Stress Bucket levels rise, work load increases, the weather changes, you are invited out, offered a drink or cigarette, these can all seem valid excuses for breaking the new habit. Creating new habits and sticking to them requires more than just willpower. It is about rewiring the brain and reinforcing the desired behaviours; changing our neural pathways.

Hypnotherapy and New Year’s Resolutions

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that taps into the subconscious mind, where habits and behaviours are deeply rooted. By accessing this part of the mind, the sessions can help address limiting beliefs and ingrained behaviours, making it easier to create lasting change.

Hypnosis can help with everything from breaking bad habits, such as overeating, a lack of exercise, smoking or drinking too much alcohol.

Most importantly, creating positive behaviours, like healthy eating, exercising regularly, and incorporating more self-care. For example, factoring in some ‘me time’. Such as a regular massage, or simply factoring in 15-minutes a day to make a hot drink and be out in nature whilst drinking it.

During Hypnotherapy sessions

We use the explanation of neuroscience to enlighten and offer strategies to strengthen mental resilience. I guide you through many coping techniques. Also, through the use of positive suggestion and reinforcing them through relaxation and focus, it helps to eliminate the mental blocks that often sabotage progress. Therefore, helping individuals stay on track even during challenging moments. This is why Hypnotherapy and New Year’s Resolutions can work together.

When I was playing ball with my dog, I noticed the same line he followed in the garden to bring his ball back to me. Although I moved, or put obstacles in the way, he still followed the same path. This is the same with strengthening our neural pathways, i.e. our habits. Should something happen to knock us off course, we have the building blocks created from Hypnotherapy to help get back on track.
